The PLS approach

Teaching materials

Key to our success has been the quality of our own course materials, developed by Zsuzsa Pontifex.
These are carefully graded, introducing the student to contemporary, living Hungarian.

Teaching method

We have acquired a keen awareness of the problems posed by Hungarian for native English
speakers and have developed a logical, flexible and practical approach to the teaching of the
language. The emphasis is on using the language while at the same time building a sound
grammatical foundation and providing relevant information on Hungarian society, its traditions and
culture. We advise students on how to study effectively to get the best results.

Tutors

We carefully select them. They are all qualified language teachers with an excellent command of
English. Trained in the PLS approach, they have extensive experience in teaching adults.

Course management

An oral interview establishes the student's linguistic needs. With the exception of total beginners,
we test all students to establish their current level. We then draw up a mutually agreed course of
study. The Director of Studies oversees the student's progress. At the end of the course we advise all
our students on how to maintain their proficiency.
